When The Sun Sets For Me

The years have passed so swiftly
Where have they all gone
It seems like only yesterday
That my children were all home

I been in the raging battles
I had worries, tears and strive
I wish it could be better
For the sunset of my life

I wish life could be different
Where all could be so calm
Not talking of the present rage,
World War II or Viet Nam

I wish both peace and happiness
For the World I could see
Before this life is over
And the Sun Sets here for me

I can only pray my family
To Jesus they all turn
And all that I have taught them
Would be their main concern

This world is full of hatred
That takes away the joy
It’s all planted by the devil
and the demons he employs

But one day soon I’m leaving
For a place where there’s no tears
I will get to meet my Jesus
You know, I’ve waited to, for years

I will Journey Up Towards Heaven
I will be flying free
On the Good Old Gospel Ship
When the Sun Sets here for me

I’m making ready for my journey
My ticket I do hold
I got it from my Jesus
The night He saved my soul

I did not pay no money
The trip for all is free
Jesus paid my passage
One day at Calvary

He died so that I could ride
That Gospel Ship for free
Sailing towards my Savior
When the Sun Sets here for me

Now wont you come and join me?
A fare’s been paid for you
Ask Jesus to forgive you
And you can go there, too

It’s a Blessed Gospel Ship you know
Though it’s hull is bent and torn
It will be passing this way soon
It might be before the morn

So I’ll keep my ticket in my hand
In my heart will be HIS Love
And when the Sun Sets here for me
I’ll have Plenty Light above

It wont be long now I think
My sun is sinking low
I can see the Blue Horizon
That is how I can know

I feel closer to My Jesus
Still more closer I want to be
He will Reach out with open Arms
When the Sun Sets here for me

Old Time Meeting Dinner on the Ground

There’s an old dirt road a winging
When my memory allows
It leads to a little church
That was once an old school house

There is the first time I remember
Of a preacher preaching well
There I learned about Salvation
And of the fiery pits of hell

He told me of God’s precious love
The kind that never fails
And if we joined His army
We would always prevail

Spirit passed from breast to breast
There was shouting on the hills
With an eye of memories
I can see and hear it still

He said that Jesus died for all
So that we might live
And if we had not lived just right
We had the promise He’d forgive

In my young heart this was embedded
Good thoughts of Jesus to impart
Through the years it has not faded
I’ve shared with many from the start

Oft time we had all day meetings
Complete with dinner on the ground
Fellowship and love all blended
With talk and laughter all around

Sometimes there’d be a good old sister
Would stand and sing Amazing Grace
No body cared how long it lasted
Nothing better could take its place

We all went home in the evening
Soul renewed and spirit filled
Oh, if I could just go back there
To that church house on the hill

Today the churches are quite different
Very quite and over soon
Everyone thinks it’s more important
To see what’s on TV by noon

They have places planned to visit
Mow the yard or a shopping spree
This may bring happiness for a moment
But old time Salvation’s still best for me

For all time will all soon be over
We’ll meet our maker face to face
I don’t want to come up short that morning
I’ll enter Heaven through God’s Grace

I am so thankful the seed was planted
When I was but a small child
I’ve made mistakes but never tainted
I Praise my Jesus with a smile

Growing Old With You

As we travel through our Golden Years
Our dreams wont all come true
And we’ll never have the riches
And things like some folks do

But nothing like this matters
No matter what we do
We’ll go life’s journey side by side
As I grow old with you

There were the lean years and the good
When our babies were yet young
We made it though, I knew we would
Our song had not been sung

We watched them grow and watched them leave
Then watched the grandbabies too
Yes, we have many Blessings to think upon
As I grow old with you
If you should leave before I do
Into that great beyond
I will be shattered, this I know
But I’ll keep pressing on

If I go first, don’t cry for me
For soon you’ll be there to
We’ll walk together hand in hand
In the Land beyond the blue

Our love will last eternally
Blessed by God’s own Hand
He’s seen us safely ‘cross the tide
Into His Promise land
